Golf Courses of Vale de Lobo & Vilamoura

Designed by American architect Rocky Roquemore, who drew upon the original designs of Sir Henry Cotton. It features a Par 3, including an island green at hole 9 and the famous hole 16, in an iconic cliff-top location – one of the most photographed holes in Europe.

Vale do Lobo Ocean Course is aligned with pine and figs trees nested in wavy terrain, a combination of Links & Fairways that extend to Atlantic Ocean.

Situated in the heart of Vilamoura, it is a parkland style course. One of the oldest in the region, it is now recognised throughout the world of golf, especially due to the exceptional integration of its layout in the landscape, composed mostly of pine trees, and the correct use of the topography of the terrain.

It is a course set in a great nature beauty, particularly open, though some holes meander through pine trees and untouched terrain. In the wood area, the fairways are narrow and require more precision in the game, while the rest of the course has an open landscape, enriched by lakes in some of the holes.

The first set of 9 holes meanders through pine trees, while the 9th holes return in the open field and slightly uphill, providing fabulous views. The terrain is covered with pine trees, which frame much of the fairways, some of which stand out right in the middle of the fairways or near the greenery, a true test of player skill.

Set in relatively flat and open terrain, with many water obstacles and strategic bunker placement, requiring a great deal of game expertise.
